SECURITY SCARE AT PRINCE GEORGE’S SCHOOL

- By Richard Palmer and John Twomey

A SUSPECTED stalker has prompted an urgent review of security at Prince George’s new school.

A woman allegedly posing as a parent got into the lobby of Thomas’s, Battersea, on Tuesday afternoon.

Challenged by a suspicious member of staff, the intruder ran off but has since been arrested.

It is understood four-yearold Prince George, third in line to the throne, had already been taken home.

But Scotland Yard’s royalty protection squad was alerted and set up an undercover operation at the south London school.

Arrested

The 40-year-old woman subsequently arrested was held yesterday afternoon on suspicion of attempted burglary at the school.

Parents of Thomas’s 560 pupils received letters to reassure them there is no cause for concern.

A spokeswoman for Kensington Palace said: “We are aware of the incident but cannot comment any further.”

George arrived for his first day at the school on Thursday last week.

For the moment, George only attends lessons in the morning and goes home at lunchtime.

The arrested woman was taken to a south London police station for questioning and remains in custody.

A Yard spokesman said: “We are working with the school, which is attended by His Royal Highness Prince George, to review its security arrangements after the incident.

“Police were alerted and officers attended immediately after the issue came to light.

“Police are part of the protective security arrangements for the Prince and we will continue to work closely with the school, which is responsible for building security on its site.”

It is not clear whether the suspect is known to police as a “fixated” person, allegedly obsessed with the prince.

Ben Thomas, principal of Thomas’s London Day Schools, said: “Our aim for him, and all our pupils, is to provide a safe and secure and happy environment where he feels supported.”

The school, where pupils range from four to 13, is rated outstanding by Ofsted.
