New snap of man in jogging attack

- By John Twomey

POLICE hunting a jogger who pushed a woman into the path of a bus issued a new image yesterday.

Officers hope the still from the bus’s own CCTV will produce new leads in the investigation.

The driver of the Route 430 double decker narrowly avoided running the victim over after the jogger barged her off her feet on Putney Bridge, south-west London.

Victim

Fifteen minutes later, the so-called “Putney Pusher” ran back over the bridge.

The 33-year-old victim tried to stop him but he carried on towards the north side of the river.

Two men aged 41 were arrested over the incident at about 7.40am on May 5 but were ruled out.

The “Putney Pusher” is white, in his 30s, with brown eyes and short brown hair. He was wearing a light grey T-shirt and dark blue shorts with grey trainers. Yesterday, Detective Sergeant Chris Griffith, of Wandsworth CID, said: “We continue to work through the information received to identify the man.

“We are grateful to those who have assisted so far.

“However, I am appealing for anyone who has given just a name to contact police or Crimestoppers again so we can fully follow up those lines of inquiry.”

Recalling the incident, bus driver Oliver Salbris said: “If I hadn’t swerved, I would have smashed her head. It was reflex. The consequences would have been terrible for her... and for me.”

Mr Salbris said the jogger “looked like he was doing it on purpose”.

Anyone with information should call 020 3276 2606, 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
