HEALTH SPECIAL

- Edited by George Nichols

Even though we might be tempted to stay indoors and sit in front of the fire, now’s the time when we should be getting out and exercising

THE summer’s well and truly over. The weather’s on a downward spiral and Christmas chocolates are in the shops. The feelgood factor of those warm, sunny days has gone and our bodies are slumping in sympathy with our feelings. So now is the most important time of all to look after our health as we face up to the winter.

We’re not getting the sunlight that we need to keep us at optimum operating efficiency and it’s worth looking at dietary supplements to top up the essential minerals and vitamins.

It’s also vital to keep an eye on our general diet as it’s all too easy to overdo it with those hearty, warming dishes that we’ve not had on the menu for months – only to find ourselves on the wrong side of our optimum weight even before all the Christmas festivities kick in.

Although we might be tempted to stay indoors and sit in front of the fire, now’s the time when we should be getting out and exercising. Autumn can bring some glorious days to spend in the great outdoors – from something as simple as a regular walk to the shops, to a stroll in the country to put the colour back in our cheeks and the spring back in our step.

And even if you aren’t feeling run down, don’t get complacent. A health check with the doctor can be a great way to focus on what you need to do, and there are plenty of excellent products out there to help with a winter health regime.
