Freed, stalker who spied on star Redmayne

- By John Twomey

A TRANSLATOR who stalked Hollywood star Eddie Redmayne for five years was spared jail yesterday.

Gaby Stieger hounded the Oscar winner even spying on him as he got undressed.

The mother of three also sent him love letters and told him: “I know things about you.”

Her face would “contort with rage” when Redmayne spoke abut his wife Hannah Bagshawe, a court heard.

Stieger, 49, was yesterday given a four-month suspended jail sentence.

Magistrates also banned her from contacting Redmayne or coming within 220 yards of him or his family.

Stieger was convinced she and Redmayne had been married “in a previous life”. The German began her stalking campaign after briefly meeting him while he was appearing on stage in Covent Garden, London, in 2012.

She moved to Britain so she could stand outside his London home.

Magistrates in Camberwell Green, south London, heard that Redmayne and Ms Bagshawe had to leave a carol service at his old school, Eton College, in 2013 after she turned up. She even got work as a film extra in a bid to get close to him.

Stieger, of Colindale, north-west London, admitted stalking. In a statement read to court, Redmayne said: “She harassed myself and my family intermittently over five years, leaving us deeply unsettled.”

Adiatu Bun-Tejan, defending, told the court Stieger did not realise the harm her behaviour was causing.
