Solomona puts wind in Sale

- Andrew Elliott

DENNY Solomona’s brace of tries helped Sale Sharks to their first Aviva Premiership victory of the season, a convincing 36-7 triumph over London Irish at the AJ Bell Stadium.

Prop Ross Harrison got the ball rolling for Sale with a 13thminute close-range try and wing Solomona, who was sent home from an England training camp in August after a drunken night out, touched down six minutes later.

Former league star Solomona then went the length of the field after intercepting a pass and the game was as good as over, with Sale going in at the break 24-0 up.

Josh Charnley, another cross-code convert, then scored a bonus-point try as the Sharks ran riot against the Exiles.

Champions Exeter made light work of bottom-club Worcester with a 41-10 win at Sixways.

No8 Sam Simmonds, who has been touted for an England call-up by coach Rob Baxter, scored the Chiefs’ first try and Lions wing Jack Nowell and Jonny Hill also crossed the line before half-time.

Prop Biyi Alo went over for Worcester but the gap was far too big for the Warriors to claw back.

Lock David Ribbans dotted down twice for Northampton as the Saints beat Bath 24-6.

England coach Eddie Jones was at Franklin’s Gardens to run the rule over Bath backrow Sam Underhill, who was making his debut for the club.

But Underhill was forced off after 58 minutes with a head injury.
