Koeman in confidence crisis

-

window was £130million but Koeman acknowledges his side’s confidence is at a low ebb.

“You have doubts; instead of going forward defending you make a step back,” said Koeman, right. “That’s all about confidence. Always you step back if you are afraid.

“I can name players who are not performing and who are struggling. That altogether makes the team weak at this time.

“It’s time for the experienced players to stand up. I am worried about what I saw. It was a wake-up call.” Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho says he does not know how long Paul Pogba will be out for but insists he has the players to cope with his absence.

There are fears Pogba could be out for up to six weeks after injuring a hamstring in the Champions League triumph over Basle on Tuesday.

But Mourinho said he was only concentrating on tomorrow’s game. “I really cannot tell you how many games he will miss,” he said. “I just know it’s a muscular injury. He’s obviously out for this weekend’s match and that’s the only one I’m thinking about.” Mourinho dismissed reports he was angry with the France international for using a personal trainer on top of his training at the club, and said he “trusts” players like Marouane Fellaini, Ander Herrera and Michael Carrick to fill the void left by the highly influential Pogba. “We will miss Pogba and we need him but we have good players more than ready to play,” he added.
