Europe should be paying us to access UK market

AS I understand it the EU sells more to the UK than the UK sells to the EU.

This means that if we are excluded from the benefits of the EU single market, it will harm EU business as much if not more than UK business.

If so, I fail to see the economic logic of the UK paying to have access to the EU single market.

Is it not more logical for either the EU to be paying the UK to have access to its market or neither party pays anything? Paul Lewis, Edinburgh
