Klopp finger is off panic button

- Mike Whalley

JURGEN KLOPP admits Liverpool are under more pressure this season because the Manchester clubs are flying. City and United are joint top after five matches, with Klopp’s side eighth. The Liverpool boss takes his men back to Leicester tomorrow after losing to them in the League Cup in midweek.

Klopp said that seven years in charge of Borussia Dortmund, where he was vying for glory with Bayern Munich, taught him a lot about pressure.

“Everywhere it is the same but here it is a little bit more,” he said. “When the Manchester teams are flying, that makes it even more difficult. But I can’t change this.

“What I can do is cool the situation here down and do the right things again and work on the other things. That’s how it is always.”

Klopp’s Reds have looked threatening going forward but their defence has been vulnerable.

He is refusing to panic, however. “We have eight points. In four games we were clearly the better side but didn’t get the results,” he said.

“Now we could panic because of not getting the results or we could say, ‘It’s still not good enough, playing football’.

“Do you think any team in the world love playing us right now? Or do they hope, like Burnley, that they only have to go for set-pieces and can concede 35 shots and get lucky?”
