Wenger: I’ve no gripe with Alexis
ARSENE WENGER is adamant Alexis Sanchez is not being punished for his summer transfer shenanigans and is ready to throw him back into the Premier League fray against West Brom on Monday.
Sanchez started the Europa League clash with Cologne and Wednesday’s Carabao Cup match against Doncaster. Both of those were muchchanged sides from the past two Premier League fixtures for which Sanchez was left on the bench.
As he made no secret of his desire to join Manchester City in the summer, it has led to accusations that Sanchez is “distracted”, or that manager Wenger is making a point. But Wenger denied it yesterday, saying: “No, not at all. That is coming into very quick conclusions. There is no disguised attitude on my side.
“I am just trying to get him back to full fitness and for me the Europa League and the League Cup is important as well. If you add the injury he got with Chile plus the rest time it was a bit long, but on Wednesday you could see that he is coming back sharp now.
“I left him on the pitch as well for 90 minutes because I wanted him to have a real go.
“I gave him a long holiday and he came back not really fit It took us time to get him back and then he got injured.”
