BRITONS spend twice as long on the toilet every week as they do exercising, a poll has revealed.

Adults are on the loo an average of three hours and nine minutes each week, but spend just 90 minutes being active.

The survey also revealed that 26 per cent of people exercise for fewer than 30 minutes a week and 64 per cent sit down for six hours a day.

Intensity

The poll of 2,000 adults, for the not-for-profit body UKactive, also revealed that only one in eight people knows how much exercise is needed for good health.

The NHS says adults should do two and a half hours of moderate intensity exercise a week, such as cycling, swimming or brisk walking.

Professor Sir Muir Gray, chief knowledge officer of the NHS, said: “Physical inactivity is society’s silent killer. Even short bouts of being sedentary can lead to deadly disease.”
