Tories must educate on the dangers of Marxism

-

IF YOU lived through the 1970s you don’t need reminding that Labour turned Britain into a strikebound wasteland crippled by union power, with a basket case economy bailed out by the international begging bowl.

Tragically, a whole generation of under-40s knows nothing of the failures of socialism and is sucked into the lie that Jeremy Corbyn and the far-Left are the magic solution, when in truth they are the dangerous menace.

The challenge the Conservatives face is to hammer home that the free market, with its belief in enterprise, low taxes, small government and personal freedom, works – and Corbyn’s Marxist command economy does not.

Theresa May will have to make the speech of her life to provide inspiration and aspiration to a key voting group which has neither.

Her party must not be spooked by Labour’s triumphalist, cultish rally last week. They need to remember who won the election and who formed the Government.

They should realise that Corbyn is eminently beatable and is despised by much of the public.

The Tories will succeed by uniting behind the Prime Minister and making the great traditional arguments for Conservatism, based on sound money, a strong economy and a cohesive society.

They must deliver on Brexit and the return of the democratic nation state without delay and hasten the restoration of control of our borders.

Mrs May should listen to the instinctive optimism of Boris Johnson and not the inbred negativity of those in her Cabinet who lack courage and vision and would pathetically tie us to Europe for ever.
