10m on edge for Dr Foster cliffhanger
A RECORD 10 million viewers are expected to tune in tonight to find out if Doctor Foster has killed her estranged husband.
Last week’s penultimate episode of the gripping BBC One drama ended with troubled GP Gemma (Suranne Jones) driving her car at speed towards Simon (Bertie Carvel) as they both raced to reach their teenage son, Tom (Tom Taylor).
The credits rolled before viewers found out it if she had driven into him.
The “has she, hasn’t she” ending has left viewers divided over who is to blame for the breakdown of the Foster family.
Comeuppance
In tonight’s episode Gemma and Tom can be seen dining in a restaurant with friends, including his teacher James Mohan (Prasanna Puwanarajah) who had an affair with Gemma.
It is a scene reminiscent of the way the last series ended when Simon’s affair with Kate (Jodie Comer) was revealed and will leave viewers wondering if another bombshell is in store.
Despite Simon appearing to get the upper hand during this series – as Gemma’s professional life as a GP and personal life unravels – some viewers hope her philandering husband will finally get his comeuppance.
Even though Simon has been exposed as an incompetent Gemma, Tom and James appear stunned as they dine in the restaurant in tonight’s gripping final episode businessman and inconsistent parent, he always appears to be one step ahead. However, last week everything slipped from his grasp when Kate – the daughter of his business partner and mother to his baby – left him and threw him out of their house.
Gemma finds him soon after sobbing over losing Kate and the baby, his job and home. The only thing left for Simon to fight for was their son, Tom. But his ex-wife is determined he will not see him and speeds towards him in her car.
A show insider said about tonight’s episode: “It’s going to be a thrilling end to the series and definitely one not to miss. “It doesn’t disappoint.” Psychologist professor Tanya Byron said: “As parents, Gemma and Simon are dire. Watching Tom buffeted back and forth by his obsessively vengeful parents was extremely unsettling.
“Indeed, while Gemma may justify her actions based on the treatment she has suffered from Simon, I’d argue that nothing justifies what her son is witnessing, and hearing, through the walls of the old family home.”
Doctor Foster on BBC One tonight at 9pm.
