The £1.7m prize contest? Clue is

- By John Chapman

GENEROUS Donna Pirie is offering her whopping £1.7million mansion as the prize in a crossword quiz.

Donna, 54, thought of selling the six-bed Georgian property, which boasts a nine-hole golf course, when her children moved out.

But she decided instead to put it up in a raffle-style competition and raise cash for charity.

She hopes to sell 150,000 entries at £25 a time, enough to recoup the cost of the property and her belongings and still leave £1million to go to a good cause.

Donna, 54, said: “I just thought I have the chance to do something for charity here.

“If you get an opportunity to make a difference, then it makes life worthwhile.”

Johnston Lodge, which Donna describes as “breathtaking”, was built in 1780 and stands in 32 acres with a half-mile private drive.

It comes complete with a gym, helicopter landing pad, tennis courts, snooker room and hot tub.

The winner of the crossword contest will also get a paid-for housekeeper, groundsmen and a year’s worth of utility bills thrown in along with the house in Laurencekirk, Aberdeenshire.

Businesswoman Donna plans to give £5 from each entry in her Christmas-themed puzzle to The Yard, a local charity which runs adventure play services for youngsters with disabilities.

Closing date for entries on her website is December 1.
