Hammond got it so wrong
IT IS a relief to learn that Theresa May is ready to spend as much as necessary to help ministers prepare for a no-deal Brexit. What a stark contrast this makes to Chancellor Philip Hammond who said money should not be spent on contingency measures. Mrs May is clearly right: preparing for no deal will mean we’re ready for whatever happens and it will strengthen our negotiating hand.
Meanwhile, this is only the most recent of many occasions on which the Chancellor has sought to undermine the Brexit process.
If Mr Hammond really cannot bring himself to accept the referendum result, he ought to resign.
