Top peaks yield a ton of rubbish

-

A CLEAN-UP of the UK’s seven most famous peaks has collected more than 2,500lb of rubbish.

Waste included chewing gum, bottle tops – and an empty packet of peanuts dated 1987.

The annual Real 3 Peaks Challenge saw 109 volunteers ascend iconic Ben Nevis in Scotland, Snowdon in Wales and Scafell Pike in the Lake District among others.

Organiser Rich Pyne said hill walkers “always say thank you, they’re always grateful”. Some even ask for spare bin liners so they can help with the effort.
