Bridget Jones star’s oh so complicated love life
AS BRIDGET JONES, Renee Zellweger had to endure more than her fair share of trouble with men.
Now it would appear the star may also have similar difficulties in real life – after court documents revealed she has financially supported her cash-strapped musician boyfriend for years.
The legal papers show that the actress, who started dating rocker Doyle Bramhall back in 2012, is paying off his monthly credit card bill to the tune of thousands of pounds and has even moved him into her luxury home rent-free.
The Bridget Jones’s Diary star was dragged into court proceedings after Doyle’s ex-wife Susannah Melvoin, the mother of his two children, demanded a judge include Ms Zellweger’s money be taken into consideration with respect to spousal and child maintenance.
Ms Melvoin, whom he divorced in 2014, claims that Doyle, 48, has been living a luxurious lifestyle since they split and now receives a substantial allowance from his movie star girlfriend that should be considered as an income.

However, while the judge awarded Ms Melvoin child support, he ruled that Ms Zellweger’s contribution to Doyle’s lifestyle should not be included in the calculation during the court proceedings.
According to the accompanying legal documents, Doyle, who has collaborated with the likes of Eric Clapton and Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters during his music career, has “no housing expenses” as he is living with the actress.
The papers also say he has a credit card with expenses of up to £3,000 to £4,000 a month, which are all paid for by Ms Zellweger.
According to the documents obtained by the US news site The Blast, the credit card agreement was more of a loan with Ms Zellweger, 48, expecting repayment, which has yet to happen.
While she and Doyle have only been living together since 2012, the pair have a long history after meeting each other in the early 1990s at the University of Texas.
Ms Zellweger recently returned to the Hollywood spotlight to make Bridget Jones’s Baby, after six years away. While she admits her time away from acting was both beneficial and educational, she has not revealed why she took the break.
Asked what she had learned about herself, she remained enigmatic. She said: “Two reasons, one of them is too personal. And another one of them I am working on and I would much rather do it than just talk about it.”
Texas-born Ms Zellweger has had a number of famous boyfriends. From 1999 to 2000, she was engaged to the American comic actor Jim Carrey. In 2003, she had a brief relationship with the musician Jack White.
In 2009, she started dating movie star Bradley Cooper. But they separated in 2011 and she began dating musician Doyle a year later.
