Wagner wants a major scalp
RENATO SANCHES, right, and Wilfried Bony have handed Swansea a double injury blow ahead of tomorrow’s Premier League clash with Huddersfield.
Bayern Munich loanee Sanches has failed to impress since joining the Swans. He is set to miss the game after suffering a thigh strain on international duty with Portugal, while Bony has a nerve problem. DAVID WAGNER insists beating Manchester United and Liverpool has to be part of Huddersfield’s survival plan.
Wagner’s team are under pressure to end a five-match winless streak in the league at Swansea tomorrow, with United and Liverpool up next. The Huddersfield manager said his players could not rely solely on taking points against their fellow minnows.
“You have to collect some points against the top teams,” said Wagner. “If we’re speaking about a top-six side, there are 12 games against them. You can’t say, ‘OK, we will collect no points from these 12 games and we have to be focused on the other ones’.”
Striker Steve Mounie, the only Huddersfield player to have scored more than once this season, has a slim chance of returning to the squad following a heel injury. Midfielder Aaron Mooy, who travelled 20,000 miles during the international break to help Australia beat Syria, will be assessed. LEICESTER’S £22million new boy Adrien Silva is training with the club but cannot play. The 28-year-old, left, has been banned from playing until January by FIFA, who claimed documents arrived 14 seconds after the transfer deadline. Leicester failed in an appeal but manager Craig Shakespeare said: “I can thankfully report he’s training with us.” ●FORMER England Under-21 boss Peter Taylor has left his role as director of football at Gillingham, where he had been standing in as caretaker manager.
