Shamed Success allowed to stay

- Ian Baker

WATFORD manager Marco Silva has backed Isaac Success to put his off-field troubles behind him and suggested the player still has a future at Vicarage Road.

The Nigerian striker was arrested after an incident at a Hertfordshire hotel last month that allegedly involved four call girls.

But despite Watford being proud of their family reputation, Silva is ready to offer Success, 21, another chance.

“We are talking about one situation in September,” said Silva.

“I am happy with his progress and the player is starting to understand what my way is and what he needs to do to have minutes. He is starting to improve.

“Our obligation is to put the player in the right way. But you can’t do this every time. He is a young player and he knows [about the situation].

“Football is Isaac’s life. He needs to be careful – everyone needs to be careful and know the right way.

“In our life, you have time to do everything in the right moments and right way.

“Young players and those in a different culture, you need to show them the right way. It’s our obligation.”

Success, who reportedly drank two bottles of Baileys on the night of the incident, has not played in the Premier League this season.

He is now sidelined with a knee injury while Silva refused to confirm whether he would be punished for his off-field behaviour.

“What we expect is he will be out for six to eight weeks,” said Silva.

“He has injured his knee – it was one session he had here. We thought it was nothing special but the problem is bigger.”

He added of the incident: “Everyone in the club knows the rules. Everything we do and the details, we’ll keep inside the club.”
