Vile wedding photo is sign of the times

-

TWO Britons, for whom we may all blush, were married on Rhodes with the beautiful monastery of St Pauls in the background and celebrated the event with a pornographic photo of the groom minus his trousers and underwear and the bride kneeling in front of him in her wedding dress. Ugh to the power of infinity!

Unsurprisingly the church is profoundly offended and the Bishop of Rhodes has responded by banning all foreign nuptials at the monastery, which means the devout and respectful have to suffer for the squalid actions of this revolting pair. The groom’s grandfather says he is disgusted but a friend said the photo was brilliant.

It is a sorry tale of our times when sex is all and respect is nothing. Almost weekly there is some story in the press of casual student sex and drunkenness or pictures of women drunk and wearing next to nothing on a night out, inviting neither respect nor self-respect.

Teens send each other lewd photographs on social media. Stars on the red carpet wear “daring” dresses which is a euphemism for thoroughly indecent ones. Amanda Holden parades on a family show in a dress that, but for its price tag, would not look amiss on a woman of the night in a red-light district.

ALL this coarseness is positively promoted by the BBC and other major channels for whom “edgy” comedy means filth and no drama is complete without its sex scenes. Ancient Rome had nothing on modern Britain. So prevailing is this culture that I doubt if that sleazy couple on Rhodes even realised they were being pornographic. They probably think it is perfectly normal to pose thus in public and in front of holy places and do not understand the anger and disgust the rest of us feel.

Bring on the burka!
