North’s injury KO for Wales

- Neil Squires

GEORGE NORTH has been ruled out of Wales’ autumn internationals as fellow Lion Ben Te’o also had bad news over his chances of playing for England in November. North will be out for six to eight weeks after confirmation he had sprained knee ligaments on Sunday for Northampton, while the verdict on Te’o was equally gloomy.

The Worcester centre may require surgery on an ankle injury he sustained in European action for his club at the weekend and will almost certainly miss England’s November programme.

“Ben’s being assessed currently and will head back down to Cardiff on Monday to see whether he’ll go down a surgical route or whether it will be managed conservatively,” said Worcester coach Carl Hogg. “He’s expected to be out for at least a month but we’ll find out more next week once the swelling has settled down.”

Te’o is the second impact centre England have lost after Manu Tuilagi. Meanwhile, Bath flanker Francois Louw was one of three players cited for eye-gouging after the European matches.

Louw faces a hearing in the incident that saw Benetton’s Marco Fuser cited for biting.

Stade Francais scrumhalf Terry Bouhraoua and Krasny Yar hooker Valerii Tsnobiladze have also been cited for the same offence in their match.

Leicester flanker Mike Williams is in hot water for an illegal charge into a ruck against Racing 92.
