Pernice. And comic Brian Conley was the fourth star to leave Strictly after losing to chef Simon Rimmer in a danceoff. Father- of- two Brian said of his dance partner Amy Dowden: “I want everyone to know how special this lady is because she is a star.”

Judge Bruno Tonioli was absent from the show for the first time in 13 years due to his work schedule. GRUESOME but gripping... that was the verdict on the first episode of the BBC’s latest drama, Gunpowder at the weekend.

The three-part series stars Game Of Thrones actor Kit Harington as Robert Catesby who was the mastermind behind the plan to blow up the Houses of Parliament on November 5 in 1605.

Viewers labelled the show “gory” on Twitter but praised it for not censoring the more gruesome aspects of history.

Jackie Saunders tweeted: “Gory, graphic and gripping. Loved it but feeling a bit queasy from early scenes so will need a week to recover for next episode.”

Lisa Higgs wrote: “What a superb new show – totally gripping.”

Another posted: “Full of blood and gore. Fantastic performance from Kit Harington one of my favourites.”

Others shared the sentiment and praised Harington for his depiction of Catesby, who is his ancestor.

Jen Sullivan tweeted: “Great start to Gunpowder tonight. Solid acting all around.”
