On-song Norwich do the Maddison

ONE moment of quality summed up the changing fortunes of these two East Anglian sides yesterday.

James Maddison’s finish at the end of a sweeping Norwich move pushed Daniel Farke’s side into the top six and takes their unbeaten run to eight Championsh­ip matches. It is a far cry from the start of the season when they were eight points behind Ipswich in August.

Head coach Farke said: “After so many setbacks and personal problems, I’m really pleased for James. We have had a lot of injuries to players, especially in attack.

“It is not easy to create chances and score goals when you have so many problems. We are the team of the moment. We stood together and showed brilliant attitude.”

It was the German coach’s first derby match in England and he loved it. “The game was full of passion and emotion, so to win such a close game was really sweet,” said Farke.

For Ipswich it was a sixth defeat in eight games after starting the season superbly with four straight wins.

The good start to the season bought Ipswich manager Mick McCarthy time but recent form is cause for concern for supporters – and he is expecting a backlash.

“I knew that could materialis­e if we don’t win games,” he said. “I’m not concerned with what people might say about me, I’m concerned about not winning.
