I’m gay says Spacey after claim he tried to seduce boy of 14

- By Mark Reynolds

OSCAR- winning actor Kevin Spacey yesterday apologised for allegedly trying to seduce a boy of 14 before revealing he has “chosen to live life as a gay man”.

Spacey, 58, sparked a furious response from the LGBT community after appearing to combine the subject of his sexuality – already known to most in Hollywood – with an apology.

Star Trek actor Anthony Rapp, 46, claimed at the weekend a drunken Spacey, then 26, made a “sexual advance” after a party at the star’s New York apartment in 1986.

Rapp said he had been sitting on the edge of a bed when Spacey “picked me up like a groom picks up the bride over the threshold”.

He added: “And then he lays down on top of me. He was trying to seduce me – I was aware that he was trying to get with me sexually.”

Rapp said he had “frozen” but was able to “wriggle” away after some time and then left the fl at.

Hours later, House of Cards star Spacey announced on Twitter: “I’m beyond horrifi ed to hear this story. I do not remember the encounter.”

He went on: “I have loved and had romantic encounters with men throughout my life and I choose now to live as a gay man.”

Last night Netfl ix said it had cancelled House of Cards after the upcoming sixth season next year.

The decision had been on the table for some time. A statement said: “Media Rights Capital and Netfl ix are deeply troubled by last night’s news about Kevin Spacey.”

Former Bake Off host Sue Perkins, who has talked openly about being a lesbian, attacked the star for staying “silent on your sexuality” until the alleged assault.

“In doing so, you undervalue the horrifi c nature of the allegation and set back the LGBT+ community.”
