My shower shock when snake slithered in!

- By Sam Ferguson

A TEACHER got the shock of his life when a snake slithered out of the overflow into his bathtub. Gary Morrissey, 34, was taking a shower after a gym session when the 14-inch serpent appeared. The computer science teacher said: “I had just been to the gym and I was in the shower at home when I saw something in the overflow of the bath. “I didn’t know what it was, but when I looked closer I could see his little tongue poking out. “It was an interesting moment when I realised what it was. I was in disbelief at first. It poked its head through one of the holes and slithered out.”

Gary told how he panicked as the slippery customer made itself at home.

First he tried to spray the reluctant reptile back down the overflow using the showerhead.

When that failed to work, he used an old Chinese takeaway tub to catch it.

Luckily Gary’s uninvited guest turned out to a non-venomous corn snake – not that he knew that at the time.

Gary, from Washington, Tyne and Wear, said: “It’s something I can look back on now and smile at, but at the time it was far from a laughing matter,

“I didn’t have a clue what kind of snake it was and whether it was venomous, so it was very scary.”

He posted a video of the snake on Facebook and his pals soon identified it.

Gary said: “One of my friends keeps snakes and offered to take it off my hands.

“I don’t have any of the equipment so I was happy to see it go.

“They’ve named it Sausage and after a good meal of dead mice he’s as happy as can be.”
