Jack is ‘jilted’ by Southgate

- Timothy Abraham

JACK CORK believes Burnley’s English contingent can shine for the national team – if Gareth Southgate would only give them the chance.

Burnley are seventh ahead of their trip to face Cork’s old club Southampton.

But England boss Southgate did not name a single one of Sean Dyche’s players in his squad for the friendlies with Germany and Brazil on November 10 and 14.

Cork said: “I’d like to think maybe one of us would get a chance some time.

“To be in seventh place is a good position and, if they’re picking on form, we’ve got James Tarkowski, Ben Mee, Matt Lowton and Nick Pope all keeping clean sheets on a regular basis.

“It’s tough to get in if you’re not at one of the bigger teams.”

Dyche’s Clarets travel to the south coast looking to continue their impressive away form which has already seen them win at Chelsea and Everton and secure draws against Tottenham and Liverpool.

Southampton manager Mauricio Pellegrino believes “outstanding” counterpart Dyche deserves all the plaudits that have been coming his way.

“I don’t know him personally but I know how he has been working in the last few seasons with his team, how they are growing,” said Pellegrino. “The job he has done is outstanding, thinking about a team that are really humble, working and playing with an identity.

“It’s something that is really difficult to build.

“It’s part of the process, the transition. When you keep the same ideas, in the long term that always gets you results.” CORK: Appeal
