Come to the table and talk, Trump tells Kim

- By John Chapman

DONALD Trump yesterday said he “hoped to God” he did not have to use US force against North Korea.

The President urged the rogue regime to “come to the table” and discuss giving up its nuclear weapons.

He was speaking at a press conference with his South Korean counterpart Moon Jae-in in Seoul.

Mr Trump, who has previously threatened “fire and fury” against Pyongyang, is on a five-nation tour of Asia where dictator Kim Jongun’s nuclear ambitions have been high on his agenda.

Mr Trump and Mr Moon repeated their call for the North Korean leader to give up his nuclear weapons.

The US leader told him that it “makes sense to come to the table” and “do the right thing, not only for North Korea but for humanity”. America has deployed a significant military presence in the region.

North Korea’s nuclear ambitions ought to have been curbed 25 years ago Mr Trump lamented, adding: “This is not the right time to be doing it, but that’s what I got. That’s what I got.”

He said Jong-un has to be aware of America’s “unparalleled strength,” reminding him that three aircraft carriers and a nuclear submarine would soon be in his backyard. The leaders also called on China and Russia to put pressure on North Korea.

Mr Trump earlier tweeted about “massive military and energy orders” from Japan that he said could shoot down Pyongyang’s missiles.
