Vokes braced for boss loss

- By James Candy

SAM VOKES is in the strange position of facing the prospect of losing his managers at both club and country.

Wales manager Chris Coleman and Burnley’s Sean Dyche could both have left their jobs by the time Vokes faces France and Panama this week.

The 28-year-old, who will lead the line for Wales in Paris tomorrow night, said: “I see the similarities with Burnley and Wales, you can see them with the manager and the squad. We are very close, best of mates, and that comes from the manager.

“Chris is the glue that holds us together. The lads are there every game, willing to leave everything on the pitch.

“We’ve been reading about his future in the media but we’ve come into camp and we’ve just been preparing for Friday as usual.” Coleman’s future is undecided after Wales failed to reach the World Cup, while Dyche has been linked to the vacant post at Everton.

Vokes said: “There has been a lot of talk with the gaffer at Burnley – and rightly so because with success comes a lot of recognition.

“He has moved Burnley on to a huge place from when I joined, on and off the field. I hope he stays.” Vokes came off the bench to score the winner at Southampton on Saturday and he said: “I’m itching to play, I feel good.

“At Burnley, there’s a lot of competition, it’s good for the squad but it means fighting for your place.”
