Evra sacked by club
❑ BLACKPOOL have been put up for sale by the Oyston family.
The decision follows a High Court ruling which ordered them to pay £31million to former club president Valeri Belokon.
VB Football Assets, the company of Belokon, a minor shareholder in Blackpool, alleged they had shown unfair prejudice against shareholders, which the Oystons denied. on November 2 after clashing with a Marseille fan. UEFA said yesterday Evra had been suspended from all European club matches until June 30 next year – then Marseille promptly issued a statement that they and the player had mutually agreed to “end their working relationship”.
Evra lost his cool after apparently being verbally abused by some of the club’s travelling fans as the players went through a 30-minute warm-up.
Marseille originally suspended the player and criticised his inappropriate response to what the club described as “hateful attacks” from fans.
While announcing they had released Evra, they reiterated their condemnation of both parties. The club said: “In Guimaraes he committed an irreparable act by responding to provocations.
“It is not acceptable from a senior player who should be a role model.”
Marseille president Jacques-Henri Eyraud said: “There is great sadness at the club for Evra and for the Marseille supporters who have been stigmatised by the irresponsible behaviour of a handful of fans.”
