Corry so sorry for ref tweet
Evra gets kicked out
PATRICE EVRA has been sacked by Marseille for kicking a supporter – but his ban and fine pales in comparison to those given to Eric Cantona for a similar incident in 1995.
Evra was handed a seven-month ban from UEFA competitions yesterday and fined just £8,829.
In contrast, Cantona was fined £20,000 by his club, £10,000 by the FA and received a nine-month ban after his kung-fu kick on a Crystal Palace fan. He was also found guilty of assault in court and sentenced to two weeks in prison, which was later reduced to 120 hours of community service.
Former Manchester United and France full-back Evra, 36, was dismissed during the warm-up for the Europa League clash with Vitoria in Portugal CORRY EVANS and his wife have apologised for the foul-mouthed racist tweet she directed at the Romanian referee who awarded a controversial penalty against Northern Ireland.
Ovidiu Hategan came under fire for the bewildering decision that helped to give Switzerland a 1-0 win in the first leg of the World Cup play-off. Hategan judged Evans, left, to have blocked a Xherdan Shaqiri shot with his arm. It prompted Evans’ wife Lisa to tweet: “Romanian gypsy c***!!! And to actually think Northern Ireland has probably homed one of his smelly relatives!! Ungrateful t***!!”
But Evans promptly released a statement through the Irish Football Association saying sorry. “The comments were published in the heat of the moment and are not representative of her views,” he said.
