SWEET PRICE FOR BOB’S OLD BOX

-

BOB DYLAN’S iconic acoustic 1963 Martin guitar sold for an astonishing £300,000 at auction in Dallas on Saturday.

The D-28 was owned by the 75-year-old poet of rock in the 1960s and 1970s. He played it at George Harrison’s Concert for Bangladesh in 1971 and 1975’s Rolling Thunder tour.

An anonymous bidder snapped it up. It was sold by Larry Cragg, Bob’s guitar repairman who bought it for about £380 from the singer in 1977. “It has the same bridge pins, everything is just like it was when he had it 40 years ago,” he said, adding that is so precious that “it’s kind of past being a guitar now. It’s the kind of thing that you’d think that people would put in a glass case or in a museum somewhere.” Dylan’s 1965 electric Fender Stratocaster sold for £760,00 in 2013.
