Boris dad’s secret mission into TV jungle
FOREIGN Secretary Boris Johnson has been savaged once or twice in the political jungle.
But his father Stanley was tipped to conquer the real thing yesterday after his surprise unveiling in the line-up for I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!
Former Conservative MEP Stanley, 77, is among the latest big names to try out jungle challenges designed to make the stomach churn and the flesh crawl.
All eight contestants touched down at Australia’s Brisbane Airport yesterday before being transported to the reality show’s set.
Stanley said he was “excited” to be taking part.
Programme-makers expect him to spark hours of heated debate about his son and other political talking points.
Twists
The show also marks a return to TV for host Ant McPartlin after going into rehab following alcohol and substance addiction.
Ant, 41, who will be teaming up with joint-host Declan Donnelly again for the 17th series, said he was looking forward to the show.
He said: “I’m excited to be back. I’m feeling great.
“The flight was all right, I had a lot of sleep and me and Dec had a good catch-up.”
Dec, 42, added: “I’m looking forward to spending more time with Ant.
“It’s brilliant to be back together, it’s perfect.
“Everything just slotted back into place. We’ll have the same old shenanigans, but with a few little added twists.
“We just can’t wait to get in and get going now.”
Joint-favourite with Stanley is Hollyoaks actor Jamie Lomas, 42, who plays bad boy Warren Fox in the Channel 4 soap.
Another one to watch is boxer Amir Khan, 30, who is joining the camp only days after announcing that he has made up with wife Faryal Makhdoom.
The former light-welterweight champion spent weeks trading insults with Faryal on Twitter but said last week they had been “sorting out all the issues”.
Other celebs include Coronation Street actress Jennie McAlpine, Saturdays singer Vanessa White, Made In Chelsea star Georgia Toffolo, former footballer Dennis Wise, YouTube vlogger Jack Maynard and comedienne Shappi Khorsandi.
Last year’s show was won by Gogglebox star Scarlett Moffatt, who said she hopes the next winner is also a woman.
She said: “I’m really excited about handing the crown over.
“I hope it’s a girl – girl power!”
