Ikea’s six-year UK growth

IKEA has marked its 30th anniversar­y in the UK by putting together a sixth straight year of sales growth.

The 20-store Swedish flatpack furniture chain lifted sales in 12 months to August 31 by 5.8 per cent to £1.81billion, increasing its market share by 0.5 per cent to 8.1 per cent.

It plans to nearly double this to 15 per cent by 2027. Online sales were up 10 per cent and contribute 15 per cent of overall turnover. Two more stores are due to open this year.

Ikea’s Gillian Drakeford said: “We have ambitious expansion plans for the UK.

“As well as opening new stores we are enhancing our existing ones.”
