Clyne and Mane blows for Klopp

- Mike Whalley

NATHANIEL CLYNE will be out until February after having surgery to sort out a back problem that has wrecked his season.

The England defender, 26, will need three months to get fit after the operation yesterday.

It is a second injury setback in quick succession for manager Jurgen Klopp, who has admitted his concern that Sadio Mane could face another spell out after aggravating a hamstring injury. The striker, who helped Senegal reach the World Cup with a 2-0 win over South Africa on Friday, has been released early and is due back on Merseyside today for an assessment of his latest injury woe. He missed five Liverpool matches last month after being injured with Senegal.

Klopp said: “It’s a concern the hamstring injury is again on the agenda and it will be critical for us to monitor and manage that in the coming days.

“We’ll have to stay on top of this for the rest of the week and make sure we are careful in how we look after him.” TIM GUDGIN, who read the classified football results on BBC TV for more than 15 years, has died aged 87. Gudgin, left, retired in 2011, having taken over the job in 1995 following the death of Len Martin. It was his distinctive tones which made Gudgin’s voice instantly recognisable for a generation of viewers.

TEAMS can bring on a fourth substitute in extra-time in the FA Cup from the first round onwards this season, the FA have announced ahead of tonight’s replays.
