Mail wanted... pin-up postie auctions herself as charity date

- By John Chapman

POSTWOMAN Kelly Williams is looking for a first class date after putting herself up for a charity auction.

Single Kelly, 41, is raising money to fund treatment for a friend who suffers from Lyme Disease.

The highest bidder will win a date with the self-described “pin-up postie”.

Kelly, a postwoman in West Yorkshire for 15 years, said: “I thought it would be fun, a great way to raise a few quid and, who knows, I might find my knight in shining armour.”

Describing herself on social media to any potential bidders, she writes: “I’m single, 5”5, I’m in good shape, I’ve no crazy ex-husband, no crazy kids (but would like both but not crazy and not an ex).

“I can speak Spanish and teach English, so could give you lessons in both if you like and I’m very useful on a weekend break in Barcelona.

“I’m clever too, I have a law degree (I’ve never used it but still) so if YOU have a crazy ex, maybe I could give you some advice. I’m funny, good at conversation, very adventurous, I’ve travelled a lot, lived in Sydney and Peru which make me sound very adventurous, doesn’t it?”

She continues: “I like watching sports, drinking beer, camping, climbing mountains, being outdoors but can also spruce it up in a posh frock, look pretty and do the swanky stuff too.”

Kelly says the winning bidder will have a first class time but they may have to answer a few questions first to make sure she’s “not going on a date with an axe murderer”. Kelly who drives her small red van around her picturesque home village, Wilsden, delivering letters and parcels, is trying to raise £60,000 to pay for treatment for her Argentinian friend Marisol Gonzales who suffers from chronic Lyme Disease. She has already completed 26 marathons to raise funds and has also convinced her fellow female posties to pose for a glamorous charity calendar.

She said: “The £60,000 is a heck of a lot of money. So far we’re at about £15,000. Fundraising is a lot harder than I thought it was going to be.

“We were going to do the Calendar Girls thing and be naked with packets and parcels strategically placed but that’s been done to death.

“Our calendar is a very classy, arty affair. The one thing you don’t expect from a postie is for them to look glamorous and beautiful.

“Some girls were easier than others to persuade. “One woman declared, ‘I want to be naked’. Others were a little more timid and needed more encouragement. That was my job on the shoot, making them feel confident, beautiful, helping them to relax and get into it.”

Kelly has set up a Facebook page named Spread A Little Sunshine where the bidding for a date with her currently stands at £750. The winner will be announced tonight when the calendar is launched.

WHAT a nice gesture from Kelly Williams, the postmistress auctioning a date with herself to raise money for charity. We’ll give her our stamp of approval.
