Judges said her consistently high-quality work proved “time and again” that she was “one of the UK’s top consumer finance journalists”.
The Personal Finance Society praised the way she and the Daily Express had “done an excellent job in raising public awareness of important personal finance issues”. Keith Richards, chief executive of the society, said: “Sarah O’Grady was a deserving winner in a very strong field in this year’s award.
“Sarah’s frequent front page news stories on real consumer finance issues, such as retirement income and pension options for workers in particular, impressed the judges. Sarah has proved time and again that she is one of the UK’s top consumer finance journalists with a knack of digging deep into the heart of real news stories which affect our everyday lives.”
After picking up the award, Sarah said: “There are serious financial issues facing Daily Express readers, namely the staggering cost of care in old age and how to manage the new pension freedoms.
“I hope my reporting raises awareness of the potential pitfalls and offers information which may help people avoid them.”
