PARDEW IN THE BAG

- Graham Read Tony Paskin

RAHEEM STERLING surpassed his best goals tally for a season as Manchester City came from behind to win 2-1 at Huddersfield yesterday and set a new club record of 11 straight league wins.

Sterling’s late winner was his 12th goal of the campaign as City overturned a half-time deficit for the first time in 22 years and 96 games.

Tempers frayed at the final whistle, with Huddersfield forward Rajiv van La Parra sent off following a clash with Leroy Sane.

City are now eight points clear of second-placed Manchester United and manager Pep Guardiola said: “To win the title, you have to win these kind of games.” ALAN PARDEW is set to be unveiled as West Brom’s new manager in the next 48 hours. Pardew confirmed yesterday he had held talks about succeeding Tony Pulis. “I’ve had discussions with them,” said Pardew, left. “It’s an attractive job so we’ll see where it goes. It’s a club that has a really good set of players. It’s a good opportunity for a manager and if it’s me, then it’s me. They’ve got good quality and maybe they should be doing slightly better.

“Looking at them and the depth of the squad, it has improvement in there so hopefully that’s what they’ll do.”

Baggies keeper Ben Foster said: “Everybody is saying Alan Pardew will be the next manager. I know people who have met him and say he plays a nice style of football.”
