Love or hate him, the super-fan who puts Marmite on sprouts
MARMITE fan Graham Arnott loves the spread so much he puts it on every meal – even on his sprouts at Christmas.
The father-of-three has more than 200 jars from around the world of the yeast extract after he started collecting them four years ago.
Graham, 52, mixes it with bizarre combinations including macaroni cheese, roast dinners and bowls of sprouts, especially as a festive treat.
His kitchen and bedroom are filled with £1,500 of Marmite memorabilia, including banners, clocks, tea towels and special plaques.
Social worker Graham gets through a large jar of the yeasty spread every week and takes an extra jar to work so he can spread it on his lunch.
But his partner Lucy, 49, and children Ben, 24, Beth, 20, and Tom,14, don’t share his passion.
Graham, from Harrow, north-west London, said: “From being a young boy, I ate Marmite nearly every day.
“It’s just something that I’ve always really loved and appreciated and after finding fellow Marmite lovers online I decided to start my collection. I’m a bit of a super-fan. My partner Lucy thinks I’m barking mad for the amount I collect but I enjoy it.
“I think Marmite goes with pretty much everything. I have it with quite a few meals, like cottage pie, macaroni cheese and even roast dinners.
“The weirdest thing I’ve tried so far was a Marmite-flavoured chocolate bar but I would try anything with Marmite, as I think it makes everything delicious.
“I also have a Marmite cheese spread from South Africa, which I wasn’t such a fan of, but I’m glad I tried it. I’ve even tried it dunked into sprouts, which I absolutely love – it’s not as gross as it sounds.”
“My children don’t really mind that I collect Marmite, they just think it’s funny. Whenever they want Marmite I tell them to use their own – my collection is too precious.”
Lucy said: “I think he’s mad the amount he collects.
“I quite like Marmite with my toast in the morning but I draw the line at having it with every meal.” for
