Trump to face health check after ‘slurring’

- From Daniel Bates in New York

DONALD Trump is to undergo a medical examination after he slurred his words during his speech recognising Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

The US President will be examined by a military doctor in the new year with the results made public.

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said any suggestion Mr Trump was unwell was “ridiculous” and that the examination was routine.

But her announcement came a day after Mr Trump had trouble with the letter “s” toward the end of his speech on Wednesday.

He ended his announcement with what sounded like “and God bless the United Shtesh”, prompting a wave of mockery from Democrats.

TV comic Trevor Noah said that he thought Mr Trump was having problems with his dentures.

Left-wing TV hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski claimed that it was further evidence that Mr Trump, 71, is suffering from dementia.

Other Democrats called Mr Trump a hypocrite after he had attacked his Democratic Presidential rival Hillary Clinton for her health during their bitter election campaign.

Miss Sanders said that the reason Mr Trump struggled with his words was that “the president’s throat was dry, nothing more than that”.

Past Presidents have typically undergone an annual physical examination and the records were released to the public.

But this will be different and will be the first unbiased look the public has had on the President’s health. Mr Trump has repeatedly bragged about his stamina and his personal doctor Harold Bornstein claimed in a 2015 letter that he would be the “healthiest individual ever elected to the presidency”.

Dr Bornstein later admitted he wrote it in five minutes while Mr Trump waited in a limousine outside his surgery.

Breaching patient confidentiality, Dr Bornstein has revealed that the President has such a full head of hair because he takes a prostaterelated drug that stimulates its growth.

Mr Trump does not exercise and he is fond of junk food with his typical dinner being two Big Macs, two Filet-O-Fish sandwiches and a chocolate milkshake.

On the plus side he has not drunk alcohol in years and he does not smoke.
