Schindler lists the positives

- Mike Whalley

GERMAN defender Christopher Schindler says he will relish a relegation battle with Huddersfield as he believes it will be much less traumatic than the one he faced in his home country.

Schindler feels fully prepared for his side’s fight to retain their Premier League status after having to deal with the wrath of his own supporters while captain of 1860 Munich. He feels the 1860 fans did not give the team their full support but says it is a different story with the Terriers faithful.

Huddersfield are seeking to end a run of four straight defeats when they host Brighton today and Schindler said: “My former club were quite comparable to Leeds, with a big past, a lot of expectations. Those expectations weren’t met in real life, so there was a lot of frustration.

“When you were not successful, the atmosphere in the stadium was one of putting pressure on their own team. If the first 10 minutes weren’t great, they started booing, as they did if there was a misplaced pass. But here it’s totally different because everybody knows where we’ve come from. It makes it way easier.” Brighton defender Lewis Dunk was sent off in the same fixture last season for two yellow cards but Seagulls boss Chris Hughton was full of praise for him over his improved disciplinary record. Dunk has yet to miss a minute of Premier League action and Hughton said: “Credit to him. He’s older, he’s more mature and coming into this season the stakes are so much higher. There is a line between being whole-hearted, wanting to win, and doing things sensibly. First of all, he’s a player you want available.”
