Dyche flying under radar

- Ian Whittell

ANDRE GRAY believes his former club Burnley are not receiving enough credit for their phenomenal start to the season – and that will suit their manager Sean Dyche down to the ground.

“They’re seventh,” said Watford striker Gray. “The table doesn’t lie. But Burnley will never get spoken about until the end of the season and, if they’re still there then, maybe they will.

“It’s a shame but it’s better for the team if they keep going under the radar.”

Watford had not been far behind Burnley in the table before this tight clash and might have even gained ground had they not lost left-back Marvin Zeegelaar, shown a straight red card for a lunge at Steven Defour, just before Scott Arfield’s 45th-minute winner.

Burnley’s efforts were all the more impressive coming after losing winger Robbie Brady and defender Ben Mee to injuries last week.

Kevin Long stepped in for Mee and did not put a foot wrong to underline how much strength in depth Dyche has in his squad.

Long said: “We’ve had quite a few injuries but people are coming in and doing really well and the squad is still winning games. I want to be playing but I never complain – the two lads ahead of me are doing really well so I can’t have any complaints.

“When I get my chance all I can do is play well and hopefully that’s enough.”
