Food and drink: Jamie And Jimmy’s Friday Night Feast, 8pm, C4

The picture on the left tells viewers the two key things you need to know about this evening’s visit to the end of Southend pier. First of all, the special guest joining Jimmy Doherty and Jamie Oliver in the kitchen is comedian Sarah Millican. Secondly, the meal they help her knock up contains sausages. In a bid to get Millican cooking from scratch and weaned off convenienc­e food, Jamie tutors her on recreating her favourite microwave meal. Jimmy builds a soft-serve ice cream machine for a child’s birthday party and the boys hit the road to champion the ethical values of eating British rose veal on the latest stage of their battle to improve food welfare standards.

From candy canes and sugar mice to yule logs and chocolate coins, sweet treats are an integral part of Christmas celebratio­ns. Guided by food historian Dr Annie Gray and social historian Emma Dabiri, four modern confection­ers, including Andy (left), uncover the mystery of what a sugarplum actually is before decorating a series of exquisite Twelfth Cakes, affordable only to Georgian’s wealthy elite. Quiz: QI, 10pm, BBC2

Bill Bailey, Katherine Ryan and Rhod Gilbert join Alan Davies and host Sandi Toksvig (all above) for questions on the theme of operations. During the 30-minute show viewers find out how to turn a muffin into an offensive weapon. As ever, accuracy and intelligen­ce go out of the window, as the difficult questions lead to points being awarded for the answers its question master finds most interestin­g.

Chesney goes to extreme lengths to punish Daniel after he is confronted behind the Rovers Return but it is the latter of the pair (Rob Mallard and Sam Aston, both above) who finds himself accused of assault by the time the second visit to Weatherfie­ld ends this evening. Elsewhere, Eva offers Aidan a heartfelt apology, David stumbles upon Anna’s hiding place while Tyrone and Fiz’s argument reaches stalemate.

Documentar­y: The Strictly Story: Fake Tan, Tangos & A 10 From Len, 10pm, Channel 5

With contributi­ons from people in different lines of work who have been directly involved with the show, like former judge Len Goodman (right), this documentar­y reveals the back story of the popular celebrity dance contest. The programme takes a look back at Come Dancing, the long-running show that inspired it, and Bruce Forsyth’s tenure as the original Strictly lead host.
