Transgender lobby group demands the scrapping of birth certificates

- By Michael Pickard

MPs and experts have reacted with anger to a call for an end to birth certificates and legal gender, and allowing children sexchange drugs on demand.

In a forthright “Trans Health Manifesto” campaigners say: “Birth certificates are not just a violence against trans people, they are material for the state’s oppression of ‘undocumented’ immigrants and asylum seekers.

“We demand an end to birth certificates and to legal gender. Gender records should be anonymised and only ever recorded as part of equalities monitoring.” The group Action for Trans Health (ATH) also says there should be free access at any age to hormone medication and “blockers” to limit the effect of natural hormones.

But MPs say children should not be placed under further pressure to question their gender.

Conservative MP Tim Loughton said: “What is really disturbing is the suggestion that hormone therapy to change gender would be readily available to children at a time when they are hardly mature enough to decide whether they want such a lifechanging chemical change put on them.”

Fellow Tory David Davies, MP for Monmouth, said: “The idea of allowing children free access to powerful sex-change drugs with irreversible consequences is lunacy.

“I utterly reject this. Children shouldn’t be allowed them under any circumstances and certainly not over the counter.”

Child communication skills expert and founder of the Transgender Trend website Stephanie Davies-Arai said: “This is quite an extreme position to be pushing this kind of medicine on to children when there is no long-term evidence base to support them, given the effects are so serious.

“It’s experimental treatment and we should not be putting children on a medical pathway before they’ve grown up.”

The manifesto adds: “We demand hormones and blockers available over the counter. We need free, universal access to safe hormones and blockers at any age, the opportunity to decide our own doses and universally accessible information.

“We are already taking hormones in this way, so this demand is simply that the danger of doing so is effectively mitigated.”

The Edinburgh ATH Twitter page added: “When we talk about hormones for children, we are talking about something that is already happening in secret... but we have no data.” It claims “many of us have died” after waiting until “puberty traumatised us to take hormones”.

ATH took part in a parliamentary inquiry that recommended allowing transgender people to change sex on demand. The Government will soon begin a consultation.

ATAXPAYER-FUNDED transgender lobby group seems hell-bent on destroying the social fabric of our country. The latest salvo from Action for Trans Health (ATH) demands an end to birth certificates, the removal of gender terminology and shockingly the expulsion of gender doctors and nurses in favour of sex-change “hormones and blockers made available over the counter and by free prescription upon request… at any age”.

The transgender bandwagon is gathering pace. Difficult questions are being raised on an almost daily basis and level heads are needed to find a way through the minefield of gender and sexuality. There is far too much at stake to allow pressure groups to steal a march on grown-up debate.
