I stupidly upset my boys over party girl arrest says Rooney

- By Chris Riches

WAYNE Rooney yesterday revealed his “stupid” drinkdriving mistake had upset his three young sons.

The Everton star, 32, was pulled over in Cheshire in September driving home with party girl Laura Simpson, 29, while pregnant wife Coleen, 31, was on holiday.

The former England captain was banned from driving for two years by Stockport magistrates and is carrying out 100 hours community work in a garden centre.

Yesterday he spoke for the first time about the ordeal and admitted he loves the community work and planned to keep it up after completing ing his sentence.

The £150,000-a-week star told talkSPORT radio: “Sometimes you make mistakes. I held my hands up. I made a mistake.

“I knew straight away I had made a stupid mistake and I have to move on. It is not nice. I’ve got children and it is not nice for them to see that and I try to move on and learn from it, which I feel I am doing.”

Yesterday he described his community service shifts at a garden centre as “relaxing”.

He added: “I’m still doing it and am about halfway through. It wasn’t something I was thinking I wanted to be doing because obviously I’ve got children at home and when you have a day off you want to rest.

“But I’ve really enjoyed doing it.”

Rooney, who switched from Manchester United in the summer, said he will continue to help at the centre even after his allotted hours end.

He went on: “I will keep in touch with them and try to help. It is a refreshing place to go and it is relaxing.”
