Eddie is waiting for Daly bulletin

- By Adam Hathaway

ELLIOT DALY gave Eddie Jones another injury headache shortly after demonstrating why the England coach rates him so highly.

Wasps wing Daly was taken off after 54 minutes of this Pool One clash yesterday having done enough to give his club a chance of making the last eight of the Champions Cup.

The 25-year-old scored two tries, slotted the conversions with regular kicker Jimmy Gopperth off injured, but was then removed with an ankle knock.

Daly will be crucial to Wasps’ hopes of making the quarter-finals – they will have to win games against Ulster and Harlequins to qualify.

He is even more vital for Jones as England bid to win a historic third Six Nations title on the spin.

Daly will be examined today but Wasps director of rugby Dai Young fears the knock will rule him out of at least this weekend’s Premiership action.

Young said: “The kid does not come off for much, so I am sure it is a bang that will put him in doubt for the Gloucester game.”

Daly’s interventions in the 10th and 42nd minutes put Wasps on the road to a win that avenged their 49-29 loss to the same opponents last week in France.

For his first trick he barged over Gabriel Lacroix to score and for his second he finished neatly after a sharp pass from Willie le Roux.

Daly went off after colliding with Le Roux while Wasps also lost playmaker Gopperth with a knee injury.

Wasps should have been home and hosed by the time Daly went off but butchered several chances.

They still had hope of getting a bonus point when hooker Tom Cruse was driven over from a lineout on 73 minutes but a last-ditch effort by the pack was thwarted by La Rochelle.
