10 years for driver who hurled rocks ‘for fun’ at mums in cars

- By Julia Roberts

A DELIVERY driver who was seen grinning as he hurled rocks at mothers in cars for fun while on his rounds has been jailed for 10 years.

Glynn Williams, 37, was said “not to give a hoot” to the consequences of his actions as he targeted oncoming vehicles at speed.

Many of the motorists he threw missiles at were women, with some accompanied by their young children.

Two drivers were injured by the hefty, hand-sized rocks, with one mother struck in the face and passengers showered in glass.

A court heard Williams would wind down his window or open his van door to launch the rocks. Glass was shattered and bodywork dented.

One victim whose windscreen was smashed thought she had been shot at and searched the road for a bullet.

When arrested, Williams denied any wrong-doing. But the United Parcel Service employee, who lived alone in Dartford, Kent, was convicted of 14 offences of damaging property being reckless as to whether life was endangered, one of criminal damage, one of assault causing actual bodily harm and one of common assault after a trial in September.

Sentence at Maidstone Crown Court was adjourned until yesterday for a psychiatric report.

Judge Martin Joy told Williams, a delivery driver for 20 years, that he had been convicted of “sheer wicked activity”.

He said: “These were frightening and very shocking offences.

“They are all very serious. The impact of these sort of offences could have been fatal.”
