It’s over! The Redknapps’ 19-year marriage ends in just 25 seconds

- By John Twomey

SINGER Louise Redknapp and her ex-footballer husband Jamie were divorced yesterday in just 25 seconds due to his “unreasonable behaviour”.

The night before the couple’s 19-year marriage came to an end, Louise was in Liverpool to sing at a friend’s wedding.

She left the venue during the early hours with fellow Strictly Come Dancing contestant and former Saturdays singer Frankie Bridge.

Neither Louise nor Jamie were at the Central Family Court in London for the granting of the decree nisi. The divorce will be made absolute in six weeks.

Documents lodged at the court showed it was former Eternal singer Louise, 43, who filed for divorce.

Jamie, 44, the former Tottenham, Liverpool and England midfielder, did not contest her claim.

Judge Ian Mulkis said the TV football pundit had behaved in such a way that his wife could not “reasonably be expected” to live with him.

Broken

The judge concluded the marriage had “broken down irretrievably”.

The couple, who have two sons Charley, 13, and Beau, nine, were married on a yacht in Bermuda in 1998.

Louise had been in Liverpool for the wedding of Strictly’s artistic director and choreographer Jason Gilkinson and his partner James Carney at the Palmhouse in Sefton Park.

She performed a series of hits, including Naked and 2 Faced, which features the lines: “Twisted and deceitful, all those two-faced people, taking me for some kind of fool, pretending to be so nice, let me give you my advice, I don’t need you.”

Louise, who was in high spirits, told the audience: “Last year when I was doing Strictly, James and Jason were having a drink in the green room.

“Jason was like, ‘I would like you to sing at the wedding’ and I said, ‘Yeah, I will do that’, so here I am.”

Professional dancers Karen Clifton and her husband Kevin, both 35, were at the bash, which was attended by a host of Strictly stars, including this

WARNING SIGNS THAT DIVORCE IS ON THE CARDS

THE breakdown of Louise and Jamie Redknapp’s marriage is proof that any relationship can hit the rocks, say divorce lawyers.

Claire O’Donnell, of Lake Legal, said: “If all the advantages that come with fame and fortune can’t make for a long-lasting relationship, what can?

“It is possible to get a troubled relationship back on track but it is essential to act quickly when you spot the warning signs.” These include making new friends and spending year’s contestant Mollie King. Frankie was there with her husband, retired England footballer Wayne Bridge.

Last year Louise had laughed off the so-called curse of Strictly, which has led to a roll call of break-ups among the show’s stars.

She said: “After so many years, it’ll take more than Strictly and a sparkly leotard to cause problems.”

But she later admitted the show had re-ignited her appetite for performing in front of a live audience.

She said: “I know there’s a perception that Jamie and I have the perfect marriage but we have our ups and downs.

“It worries me that if one day anything were to happen, it would hit us really hard because we’ve got this image of perfection to live up to.” more time socialising without your partner. Louise was often seen out without Jamie earlier this year and with a new group of friends, including her Strictly co-star, model Daisy Lowe.

Couples who fail to show affection to each other and who argue or become irritable instead of having proper conversations are also at risk.

Ms O’Donnell added: “If one or both people in a relationship stop planning for the future, that is often a sign that they see a future on their own.”
