Gillian walks to new fame
GILLIAN ANDERSON has been honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame.
The 49-year-old actress, who was born in Chicago but brought up in north London, came to prominence as FBI special agent Dana Scully in hugely popular 1990s television sci-fi series The X-Files. She addressed the Californian crowd by saying of Scully, whom she played from 1993-2002 and then again in the show’s post-2016 revival: “A woman who wasn’t just the object of man’s desire but a strong-willed, smart, brave woman who was career-driven and fiercely independent. As the fan response would soon prove, a desperately needed role model for women of all ages everywhere, who it turns out were simply not seeing themselves represented.”
Her co-star David Duchovny, 57, who starred as agent Fox Mulder in the series, was apparently unable to make the ceremony but already has his own star on the Walk Of Fame next to Gillian’s and sent a message to her saying: “We will always be joined as partners, friends and now neighbours.”
And after becoming the 2,625th star since Tinseltown first started bestowing the accolade on the famous strip in 1961, Gillian, who was joined by The X-Files creator Chris Carter for the momentous occasion, added: “It’s an incredible honour, I feel very privileged and humbled by it.”
