A HUSBAND who lost his wedding ring in woods has been reunited with it following a chance meeting with strangers – who had discovered it just minutes earlier.

Andrew Bilsborrow was heartbroken when the titanium band slipped from his finger as he rode his mountain bike down a track.

Two months later engineer Andrew, 36, was on the same track near his Sheffield home when he stopped to chat to a family walking in the other direction.

To his amazement, they told him they had just found a ring buried under leaves.

Andrew told them his story and, after scrubbing off the dirt, was astonished to discover that it was his ring.

He said: “I like going out on my bike in that area and I just got chatting to them about cycling.

“They told me they had just found a ring and asked if I knew anyone who had lost one.

“It had been buried in a place I must have gone past six or seven times after losing it.

“It is an incredible coincidence. If I had walked past 10 seconds earlier or later, I would have probably missed the family.”

Andrew and teacher Charlotte, also 36, married in 2013 and have a year-old daughter Imogen.

Andrew added: “I was absolutely gutted when I lost the ring. You can replace them but it’s obviously not the same.”

Charlotte said: “We searched everywhere and couldn’t find it.

“I am so glad we have it back. It has a lot of personal value.”

Andrew forgot to ask the family’s name so Charlotte put a message on Facebook to thank them for finding the ring Hutcliffe Wood last December.

Hannah Elliott saw the message and replied: “It was us that found it. It was an amazing coincidence but we are so glad it has been returned to its rightful owner.”

Ladbrokes’ betting experts have since put the odds of finding the ring 100,000-1. in
