United hit back in £89 ticket war

- Richard Tanner

MANCHESTER United have launched a tit-for-tat ticket war with Sevilla. United will charge fans of the Spanish club £89 – about £35 more than the usual ticket price – to attend the Champions League last-16 tie at Old Trafford on March 13.

Officials say it comes in response to Sevilla’s “unfair and excessive” ticket pricing to see Jose Mourinho’s men play the first leg in Spain on February 21 and that the club will use the proceeds to subsidise their own fans who attend that game.

Sevilla are charging United followers £35 more than the £54 it cost Liverpool fans to attend their group-stage match at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium in November.

Sevilla say they are not breaching UEFA rules and are charging their own fans more. But United say they have taken their hard-line stance as “a deterrent to future opponents who look to increase ticket prices for our travelling supporters”.

Their fans will be refunded £35 before the trip to Spain next month.
