Assange made Ecuador citizen

WIKILEAKS founder Julian Assange has been granted Ecuadorian citizenship.

The 46-year-old Australian has been living in Ecuador’s embassy in London since 2012 after a warrant was issued for his arrest for an alleged rape in Sweden.

The South American country wants him to be given diplomatic immunity so he can leave the embassy but Britain has refused.

A Foreign Office spokesman said: “The government of Ecuador knows that the way to resolve this issue is for Julian Assange to leave the embassy to face justice.”
